Welcome to my humble abode. I do hope you can spend a minute or two looking around.
My biography is brief and explains what makes me happy in music. Perhaps I could risk a little name-dropping after all...
For example... I addition to gigs where I have played solo as the main 'turn', I have played support for Ralph McTell, The Albion Band, Phil Beer Band, Ken Nicol and Ben & Joe Broughton to name a few, and going back in time, Alex Campbell, Noel Murphy, Dando Shaft etc. 2005 saw me on Granada TV's "My Favourite Hymn" and with friends - Paul Walker and Stuart Thompson (Roughtown Acoustic) - at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.
I play with the well-famed country dance band "Shake a Leg" (playing drums, percussion and mandola) and have my own band, Roughtown (the big brother of Roughtown Acoustic). This is a folk/rock band featuring a new, revised line-up.
But solo work is my first love, and be it unaccompanied session or a big-stage concert, I love to entertain. I play a mix of traditional, local and self-written material.
Here are just a few appreciations from my solo performances:
"Thanks to your contribution, the event was a great success... we look forward to working with you in the future... Folk Extravaganza, King Georges Hall, Blackburn
"A great spot (supporting The Albion Band)... we will have you back..." Playhouse Theatre, Shaw, Oldham ...and they did! supporting Phil Beer Band, other solo spots and with Roughtown.
"Martin Stimson is an accomplished singer who has supported such names as Ralph McTell and The Albion Band. His CDs demonstrate why he was chosen for these prestigious slots." Broadstairs Folk Festival
So have a look at my CD's (on the Music to Try and Buy page) and my humble gig list - and I look forward to meeting you.
